Anna Martynenko
My photographic practice explores transformation, blending reality with imagination to reveal the latent beauty within people and places. I am drawn to the idea that subtle shifts—internal or external—can generate wider change, whether in relation to mental health and well-being, belonging and identity, environmental awareness, or questions of gender equality and personal freedom.
I approach photography as a collaborative process based on presence and observation. Personal histories and lived experience shape how each individual’s identity appears within the image, often pointing toward self-acceptance. Many of my projects focus on women, exploring the complexity, resilience, and individuality of their experiences.
I primarily work outdoors, using existing environments as intentional settings. By working with available light, landscapes, and material limitations, I transform familiar elements into images that feel original.
Influenced by fairytales, mythology, psychology, and spiritual or esoteric traditions, my work invites viewers to look beyond the visible and engage with the unseen— embracing ambiguity, intuition, and the generative power of the subconscious.
